Ramban woman delivers baby on board train to Banihal | KNO

Srinagar, Sep 03 (KNO): A woman gave birth to a baby boy on a train running from Sumbar to Banihal in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Wednesday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the woman went into labour and delivered a healthy baby boy. “The Railway Protection Police team promptly provided all necessary assistance to the mother and ensured immediate care. Both the mother and the newborn are safe,” he said. The woman, Akhtara Bano, is a resident of Sumbar village of Ramban. Meanwhile, medical facilities were arranged at Banihal station to ensure timely medical attention for the mother and her child Meanwhile, as per an official communique, the railway staff at Banihal Railway Station assisted a woman passenger who delivered a baby on board a train today and arranged for the immediate transfer of the mother and child to the nearby hospital. The woman, a resident of Sumbar village, was on board Train No. 64651 (Sangaldan–Baramulla) travelling with her husband when she developed severe labour pain as the train reached Banihal. With the help of female co-passengers, the delivery took place inside the coach. On receiving the information, Station Manager A.B. Bali, along with staff members Lalit Kumar, Mudassir Ahmed and Manzoor Ahmed, swiftly arranged medical assistance and ensured safe transfer of the mother and child to the nearest hospital. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) also extended support during the process. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal, and Area Manager, Kashmir Valley, Saqib Yusuf, commended the quick response of passengers and railway employees. They stated that this incident is an “excellent example of humanity and coordination between passengers and railway staff, reflecting Indian Railways’ commitment to safeguarding lives.”—(KNO)
